Why do I have such a high fee score on my dashboard?

Your fee score on your dashboard is looking at the expense ratios of the funds you currently hold. The expense ratio is the fee charged by the mutual fund or ETF provider to operate the fund. If you are holding any type of fund in an advised or non-advised account, you are paying an expense ratio – there are no free funds, if you have been sold a “free” fund at any point we should discuss the fund in detail to confirm the actual expenses.

Our Premium service picks the best ETF for our clients’ portfolio at the lowest total cost. These are often index funds, which are inexpensive because the funds are not actively managed. We may include higher expense ratio funds when appropriate, such as where a fund that trades commission free is more appropriate, or if we are holding an alternative fund as a tax loss harvest replacement.
